Welcome from our Principal

Sarah Bacon

Principal – Wendover Online School

“Over many years of teaching and being involved in education we have always been left humbled by the trust, in awe of the responsibility and excited by the opportunity that teaching involves”.

Is there anything more important than setting your child off on the right path, and as a teacher being part of their educational journey?

Giving a child the opportunity to learn can give them the foundation they need to set them up right for life.

But what does that actually mean? What do we want them to learn, how do we want them to learn and why?

Learning isn’t static, it isn’t time limited and it is not always linear.

Education should engender curiosity, present challenge, offer the means and excitement to reach potential and be the foundation of a lifelong love of learning.

It should be engaging and fun; something a child wants to do, bringing about self-discovery, confidence, encouraging kindness, care, and a desire to share whilst fostering a wish to strive for a betterment of our world.

The responsibility for a good education falls on us all, as educators, parents, friends and members of society.

As a school we offer a personalised and individualised learning experience for a child.

Our teachers work out the child’s learning needs and styles, they observe and listen to bring about the best ways of learning, what to teach and at what pace to teach.

They get to know a child’s interests and how they like to learn. They get to know the child. They are interested.

When we started our school, we knew our children would learn fast – the combination of experienced and dedicated teachers with small groups of children is a recipe for success. We know that if children are engaged and active, they will progress.

If teachers measure and manage how and what a child learns, a child will enjoy the lessons. What we didn’t realise was through the small groups and personalised learning the children are eager to ask questions to reaffirm knowledge and explore ideas, and that would result in a huge development in confidence and expression. It’s the magical ‘extra’ – unexpected yet a joy to see. The teachers too are filled with the satisfaction and enjoyment of seeing the children grow and thrive.

We encourage active reading, critical discussion, careful listening and the development of self -expression. We support and guide but we will encourage your child to develop independence, enjoy debate and to love learning.
