Philip Harris

TEACHER OF BIOLOGY AND CHEMISTRY

About

Philip has been a teacher and tutor for many years, having started teaching in London in 1996. Philip left the UK to teach abroad in 2013, first in China, and then in Malaysia, Qatar, Germany, and France. According to a story by Philip’s mother, his interest in science (and talking about it!) started in primary school, where he apparently demanded that the teacher introduce a ‘Dinosaur Study Week’! He has been reading and communicating Science ever since.

Philip firmly believes that the most effective form of teaching is either on an individual basis or in small groups, both of which are offered by online teaching. “Online teaching is focused on the academic teaching and learning of content and is free of external agendas. For older students who want to learn the content effectively and get good exam grades, the best environment to learn is one that is focused on the subject content and relatively free of distractions. The online environment is optimum for this.”

When Philip is not teaching, he enjoys reading, listening to audiobooks, learning languages – he is currently learning Spanish – and writing plays. Alongside this, he enjoys watching Wales play rugby, as well as dog walking and fry ups!
