Neil became interested in History and Politics from a young age; taking his first degree in History, followed by a MA in Politics and Contemporary.  The nature of the research during his PhD required that he familiarised himself with a range of sociological concepts, which is how he became interested in Sociology too. 

Teaching online was something Neil started largely because he was forced to by government-mandated lockdowns.  However, since then, he has not looked back. 

Other than the greater flexibility afforded by online teaching, Neil does not believe it differs that much from more traditional teaching.  Whether in a physical or virtual classroom, the challenge is to build rapport with students, stimulate their engagement, and enable them to develop knowledge and understanding. 

In his spare time, Neil spends time on his hobbies including: running, swimming, reading, and cooking.
