Joanna Picton

TEACHER OF MEDIA STUDIES

About

Joanna studied media from 1998 as one of the first GNVQ Media students in Cornwall. This was followed by studying Media at Falmouth University for 3 years. Joanna also gained experience at her local radio station, Pirate FM, which has now sadly closed. Her experience was broadened with time spent at the local newspaper, the Falmouth Packet, and taking photos for local businesses.

After completing her PGCE in 2007, she went on to teach various levels of media studies and found that helping young people achieve their ambitions was the best job she could have.

Joanna has only recently started teaching online and has found it very rewarding and a brilliant way to help students to reach their goals.

Focusing on the students’ needs online is easier for Joanna than in a traditional classroom. In her experience, students can receive much more individual attention, which can suit different abilities.

A keen photographer, Joanna has taught her eldest child the skills he needs to take photos of bees and small birds which are his passion. Her two boys, six and twelve, bring new adventures every day! She also has a collection of guinea pigs and two dogs, who keep her busy.
