Ava Khalfaoui

TEACHER OF GEOGRAPHY

About

Ava has more than 30 years of teaching experience, and has worked in the UK, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Morocco. A confessed lifelong learner, Ava has continued to research education and how students learn since graduating in 1996.  Further qualifications include an MA from King’s an MPhil from Durham, and a PGDE from Bristol University. Ava now teaches Geography, Travel and Tourism, Environmental Science and Global Perspectives, as well as general humanities.

Ava’s journey into online teaching started when she moved to Morocco in in 2021 to work in an international school. After four years, Ava was ready for a fresh challenge, she loved the experience of online teaching during the pandemic and decided to switch to teaching wholly online.

In Ava’s opinion, the success of making online teaching work requires teachers to be very organised (which she is). She also finds, online teaching more focused and lessons more productive which is incredibly rewarding.

In her experience, online teaching also suits today’s students, “they live in a world where AI and tech are an everyday part of their lives and they feel connected in a real way to that”.

Beyond the classroom, you will still find Ava teaching (of sorts!). Ava is trying to train her Friesian horse to do some beginner’s dressage. Ava is happiest spending time with her cats, horses and family (not in that order!)
