Supporting students with SEND - Online SEN Classes
The process for joining Wendover
Every student who comes to Wendover is carefully assessed so we can ensure we can support their needs. We do not hurry this. A new student will usually have two taster lessons and meet their future teachers.
The head of year and SENDCo will meet parents and the student. From these meetings and previous reports we write a student profile for teachers to refer to and we offer a flexible programme which may start with core subjects and grow as a student gathers confidence.
Some students start with 1-2-1 lessons and move to group lessons. All of this is supported by our weekly 1-2-1 tutorials and keeping in close contact with parents to monitor the student’s progress on the course and modify it as needed.
Access to the curriculum and school activities
We want to enable all our students to achieve their potential by means of challenging, yet achievable aspirations.
SEND students are offered full access to a broad, balanced and relevant education. They have full access to all school activities so far as it is reasonably practicable and relates to the student’s needs.
We work in partnership with external agencies to meet the needs of the student and will act on information provided by making reasonable adjustments.
Communication
Apart from ongoing contact between the school and parents through bespoke parent groups, parents meet with the Head of Year as needed to discuss their child’s needs.
The Head of Year will also attend the review meetings with outside agencies or the Local Authority as applicable.
Parents will receive reports every six weeks so they are kept up to date with their child’s progress.
Access arrangements for GCSE and A-Levels
We have a strong team supporting students with exam access arrangements.
The Exams Officer will identify the student’s local examination centre and together with the SENDCo ensure that the student has the access arrangements in place for example extra time, exam breaks, use of word processor, that they may need.
