In July 2022, Allison took early retirement from full-time classroom teaching, following 30 years of MFL teaching in London secondary schools. Allison has taught French and German from beginner to A-Level, including IB diploma (higher) and Italian GCSE. Allison also has experience teaching adult learners, both beginners and advanced.
Allison is an examiner for Edexcel and AQA and has experience marking both speaking and writing GCSEs in French and German.
Like many people, due to Covid, Allison had to embrace online teaching. She admits she would never have considered it otherwise, just not thinking it possible! Five years on, teaching online has become routine and is very enjoyable with the same benefits of face-to-face teaching but without the stress of traffic jams!
Since tutoring online and working for Wendover, Allison has also realised that it is possible to establish a very positive and meaningful rapport with online learners. Of course, it is very different from teaching in a traditional school environment, but no less efficient and effective.
Allison had thought it would be potentially more different for younger children, but is currently working with 9 year old pupils online, and it works very well, aided by the fact that Teams is an incredibly efficient system for exchanging information, setting homework and general communication.
Allison is a very happy, optimistic and positive person and likes to think she can make the best of all situations, however challenging.
When not teaching, Allison spendst time on her hobbies which include cycling, swimming and foreign languages – improving the ones she know and attempting to learn new ones.
