Celebrating the rich experiences of our amazing online professional teachers

Our professional online teachers are experts in their field. More than that, they bring online lessons alive for their small classes, using their life experiences to share the sort of rich and fascinating details that inspire students.

So, we thought you’d like a peek inside our ‘staff room’ to find out more about the depth and breadth of experience our team bring to the education of your child.

International teachers

Like our online students, many of our professional online teachers have lived overseas and understand the joys and challenges of international travel. Those with professional teaching experience in foreign countries also bring a valuable global perspective to their professional work.

Science teacher Philip Harris taught in China; Maths teacher Ben Stephens tutored students in Malaysia; Daniel Devlin taught in Kazakhstan. Our team has substantial experience in teaching across Europe and the world, from nursery right up to university level. This has given them the ability to analyse different approaches on how to teach effectively and guide students through difficult subjects.

Leaders in online teaching

Our staff are also experienced in developing educational policy and training. English teacher John Micallef has been an AQA Examiner and an associate university lecturer training and acting as a mentor to trainee teachers. Others have worked with exam boards to develop exam materials, and collaborated with organisations like Edexcel to introduce British curricula and GCSE exams into international schools. All of this experience helps ensure that our teachers remain at the forefront of developments in education.

Professional online teachers

At Wendover, we hand pick our staff not just for their expertise in their own subject, their international experience or teaching ability. We look specifically for those who excel in the particular skill of teaching online.

Helped by the focus of small class sizes, our online teachers must ensure that each of their students is engaged and learning during their live lessons. It is demanding for both teachers and students, but is an excellent way to ensure that each subject is understood properly and any problems or questions can be addressed quickly.

Thought leaders in education

Real learning comes from much more than simply teaching. The best teachers think carefully about how they can connect most effectively with their students, and how they can give them skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

We are lucky to have on our team someone with a keen interest in Project Based Learning (PBL) and Philosophy for Children (P4C) as approaches to the curriculum across all age groups. Alex Coxall is currently engaged in research concerning inherent gender bias in large language model AI systems, particularly in relation to educational software training data. Sharing expertise such as this helps our teachers consider their teaching practice from different angles and engage most effectively with their students.

Sportsmen and sportswomen

Our team at Wendover Online School have a huge range of sporting interests. They are always happy to chat with their students and encourage sporting activity at any level.

We have teachers who row, surf, paddleboard and sail; teachers who love paragliding, wild swimming and skiing. Many enjoy walking – not always as far as Monica Vila-Parcerisa, our Spanish teacher who crossed the Pyrenees from the Mediterranean to the Cantabrian Sea in 42 days, walking 850 km and climbing (and descending) a total of 40,000m. We also have teachers with sport science and coaching experience. If your child is interested in sport, they’re sure to have some interesting conversations with our online teachers!

Caring for the environment

Outside the curriculum, we make sure that our students are aware of the ways in which they can help reduce their impact on the environment. Science and Geography teacher Lucy Martin is a dedicated conservationist and has an extensive background in organising and participating in ecological projects around the world. She passionately promotes sustainability in the environment and is always ready to encourage staff and students alike to do what they can to help.

A rich variety of experience

At Wendover Online School, we offer more than just expert teachers. Our team are professional online teachers with a passion for lifelong learning – whether that grows from within school subjects or is fostered by other interests.

We get to know each of our students well and are always ready to offer encouragement in whatever inspires them. Together, our experiences nurture confidence and success.
